"James"

This artist book was born shortly after the death of my grandfather. Not because of his death, but because of my inheriting most of the photographs that he took while serving in the US Navy. My Grandfather (James) would take photographs in the area of Pearl Harbor H.I. and when sending them home make notations about what was in each image, his own form of storytelling. As I child I never heard about any of these photographs, but was constantly told stories about the shenanigans that he and his shipmates would get into while off duty. From the perspective of a small child, the only thing he may have one while in the service was get into mischief.

This book is a hybridization of the memories that my Grandfather sent home on his photographs and the memories that he gave to me by telling stories.
